The photographic series shows children of varying ages with one arm raised in a gesture of waving. They look directly into the camera meeting our gaze. The images are upper body portraits that capture as a moment the facial expressions accompanied by the movement of the hand.
Waving is a positive, compassionate gesture that is understood globally. It almost automatically triggers a reciprocal response in each of us. I am fascinated by the gesture of waving and its infinite variety of expressions that can range from an intimate personal communication to spontaneous acknowledgement of passers-by. In terms of narrative waving can signify either a beginning or an end; celebrating an arrival or saying goodbye.
